The fastest and most secure way to attach cameras and lenses to a tripod is by using the Arca Swiss style plates. Their light weight and low profile makes life that little bit easier when shooting from a tripod. I prefer the lens plates from Wimberley and usually get one size up from the recommended so as to use it as a focal slide and all my camera plates come from Really Right Stuff.
